Workforce mobility was at the top of the agenda at the recent CTIA Enterprise and Applications 2011 October conference - showing that flexible working is here to stay. According to Strategy Analytics Wireless Enterprise Stategies (SAWES), topics of particular interest were the management of workplace mobile devices and the latest smartphone developments.

In its report From MDM to M2M: Key Enterprise Mobility Trends at CTIA Enterprise and Applications 2011, SAWES found that there has been a concerted effort to get the Android operating system ready for enterprise use. The organisation also found that an entire ecosystem needs to be developed if app and device security and management is to be totally effective.

Gina Luk, senior analyst at Wireless Enterprise Stategies, said: "The need to manage [workplace portable] devices, especially iOS and Android, has never been greater. What emerged from CTIA is how carriers and OEMs are working in close association to make their products enterprise-ready."

The advance of mobile technologies is happening at a considerable pace. Recently, developer Red Bend announced that it has been working on a mobile virtualization solution that allows for multiple profiles to be stored on a single phone.
