Many businesses are viewing the optimisation of managed WAN solutions as a key part of their IT operations, an expert has suggested.

Writing for TMC Net, Ashok Bindra suggested that the issue is no longer a "tactical-style deployment" and has become a topic which demands improved control of applications across infrastructures.

Discussing the importance of WAN optimisation, he outlined that gaps often emerge between both the users of networks and the resources they want to make use of.

"As a result, users and data centre services have moved physically further apart from each other," he explained to the website.

"Thus, causing applications, files and services delivered over the WAN to suffer in performance, result in poor user productivity and failed IT projects, impacting the bottom line."

In a previous column for TMC Net, David Sims suggested that a range of organisations are now aware of the benefits of WAN optimisation, including local authorities.
