An expert has claimed that the videoconferencing is becoming increasingly popular with many businesses.

Peter Burrows of BusinessWeek has claimed that the unified communications technology is making the switch from "an exotic luxury to an everyday part" of life for many businesses.

He explained that evidence of this trend can be seen as major companies including Cisco and Logitech are making a number of deals with a view to taking a larger share of the market.

"Thanks to increased broadband capacity, corporate networks can now better handle bandwidth-hogging videoconferencing sessions," he outlined in a column for the website.

He added that people have a had taste of the service through Skype, while most laptops and mobile phones now have "the processing power" required for the platform.

Another major deal in the market recently saw audiovisual distributor Medium buy majority share in videoconferencing company Beyondis.

The company is set to make its acquisition a new trading division.
