Unified communications integration specialist SCC believes that a year of impending travel chaos brought about by the 2012 Olympic Games - among other things - will help boost the uptake of video conferencing solutions. The firm claimed that the technology will provide a more reliable and cost effective alternative to travelling to work during the summer months for many businesses.

Ian Scott, SCC's director of audio visual said: "In an era where we are in many ways defined by our mobility, businesses must give due consideration to how they will cope when movement is suddenly restricted."

He added that each year the British economy loses vast sums of money to delayed trains, cancelled flights and other transport disasters, but claimed that many of these problems could be avoided with technologies like video conferencing. And many businesses seem to agree. "We're seeing a sharp upturn in interest around video conferencing solutions," Mr Scott concluded.

Another reason firms are adopting the technology is the potential for cost savings, the Federation of Small Businesses has claimed.
