New business connectivity research has highlighted that IP-to-IP services are continuing to rise in popularity.
The study by Infonetics Research revealed that demand for session border controllers (SBCs) is driving interest in the overall VoIP equipment market, which enjoyed revenue growth of 5.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2010.
Diane Myers, directing analyst for service provider VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) at the intelligence firm, said the findings were evidence that IP-to-IP connectivity continues to overtake IP-to-TDM alternatives.
"SBCs and media servers will be the main growth engines of the carrier VoIP equipment market for 2010," she explained.
Ms Myers added that the IMS market is also enjoying "strong and healthy growth", particularly thanks to the adoption of fixed-line VoIP and network transformation projects organised by operators in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Previous figures from Infonetics Research suggested that service provider demand for IP over Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing services on routers is rising.
