Companies could boost the efficiency of their staff by introducing remote working policies, a new report has outlined.

The Microsoft Telework survey found that 60 per cent of workers in the US believe they are both more productive and efficient when able to work flexibly from a remote location such as their home.

However, it revealed that only 40 per cent of the firms surveyed currently have established policies for mobile and remote working, while only 15 per cent stated their company supports flexible work arrangements.

The report also highlighted that firms are most likely to supply laptops as part of remote working policies, while some also offer virtual private network services, instant messaging and mobile computing technology.

Workplace solutions provider Voxclever recently suggested that remote work policies allow firms to be more flexible in how they deal with a range of operational issues.

The firm added that mobile working also helps firms to cut travel costs.
