Remote working 'can improve staff productivity'

Companies can improve the productivity of their staff by offering remote working incentives, according to a leading business body.

A spokesman from the TUC has claimed that there are many benefits to offer a better work-life balance, including staff retention, a drop in health issues and a reduction in absence levels.

  • Mobile and remote working also offers advantages to companies themselves, he explained, as they can save on costs linked to office rents and energy costs.

    He added that a range of flexible working options are available to firms and "while not every model suits every company", the growth of the concept in the past ten years "shows that it can be implemented into all kinds of businesses".

    Recent research published by Lumison found that just a third of firms in the UK have flexible working strategies in place, despite 73 per cent of employees suggesting that such practices would make them more productive.
