According to managed hosting expert Nigel Roberts, WAN optimisation is an essential part of next generation networking.
Mr Roberts said: "People love their MPLS because of its reliability, stable performance and fast recovery, but it can be expensive by itself.
"Utilise an MPLS system that involves ... WAN optimisation and ... you've got effective bandwidth management that's also affordable."
He added that effective WAN optimisation, which can ensure businesses get the most out of their bandwidth, needs to be underpinned by a strong MPLS network that offers consistent performance.
Mr Roberts also suggested that businesses need to be aware of what applications will use up their bandwidth if they are going to get the right MPLS network solution for them.
