The telecommunications industry must find new ways of providing next generation networks to meet the growing demand for mobile broadband capacity, it has been claimed.
Niall Murphy, co-founder and chief strategy officer of network provider The Cloud told the Westminster eForum keynote seminar that demand currently outstrips the ability of existing wireless local and wide area networks to service it.
He added: "There is simply no way that there is sufficient spectrum capacity in high density population environments to service that demand - it's unsustainable."
"There are going to be some significant changes in the way that the wireless access has to be serviced."
Mr Murphy went on to say there appears to be a range of solutions, including applying for spectrum space, which could squeeze capacity out of radio spectrums in an attempt to meet the capacity demand crunch over mobile platforms.
The latest report from telecoms industry analysts Ovum, 'Global mobile market outlook: 20082013', published earlier this month, revealed that emerging market growth and the development of mobile data services will continue growth in the telecoms industry despite the current uncertain economic climate.
