The future of technologies including managed Ethernet looks set to be discussed at an upcoming event, it has been revealed.

Global consortium the Ethernet Alliance is to hold its Technology Exploration Forum in Santa Clara, California, where IT experts from across the globe will discuss the future of the technology as networks continue to evolve.

Companies including IBM, VMWare, Cisco and Force10 Networks are expected to take part in the event, which will consider a range of matters including how storage networks will be impacted by Ethernet.

In a statement, the Ethernet Alliance added: "The forum will address the future of 10GbE server interconnects, the thermal impact of 40GbE/100Gb/E on networks and systems, how physical network designs will be impacted by network convergence and virtualisation."

Details of the event have come after International Data Corporation research suggested that spending on networks related to communications is set to rise in the near future, which could impact on the future of Ethernet and multi-protocol label switching services.
