A growing number of businesses could benefit from having access to remote working technologies, a new survey has highlighted.

Research by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has revealed that while 51 per cent of firms polled believed they are prepared for severe weather, transport disruption during the recent snowfall meant 29 per cent of staff could not get to work.

  • However, 42 per cent of respondents said that the conditions led them to introduce remote working policies, while three in ten chose to offer flexible hours.

John Wright, national chairman of FSB, said the organisation was calling for the creation of a new conference to find ways to keep the UK functioning in difficult conditions.

He added: "We need to be better prepared with more salt for roads to prevent staff from missing days of work and bringing the country to a standstill."
