The importance of the Ethernet first mile for companies operating in the e-commerce sector was recently highlighted by an industry commentator.

Jonathan Hoppe, writing for TechNewsWorld, said that this increases the speeds of the connection between the origin server and what is described as the backbone, which is where the majority of the distance between the user and the provider resides.

He said that it is important for companies to keep the speeds of these connection as high as possible, as any latency will get passed on to customers.

Investing in high speed solutions such as Ethernet first mile connectivity could reduce the delay that potential customers face accessing a company's website.

Mr Hoppe claimed that online commerce is in its prime and has a huge following among businesses from around the world.

He concluded: "E-commerce vendors spend huge amounts of resources on elaborate, logical websites that are designed to lead the end-user to conversion. There is one factor, however, that is commonly overlooked in the process: performance."

Earlier this month, professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, claimed that most online retailers are investing their profits back into improving their business, which could include steps such as investing in the speed of the Ethernet first mile.
