One of the most significant barriers preventing businesses from introducing remote working practices is company culture, according to new research.

A study by Lumison found that just a third of firms in the UK have flexible working strategies in place, despite 73 per cent of office workers claiming they would be more productive if given the opportunity.

  • Half of bosses also claimed to sceptical over whether people would really be working when not in the office, despite 65 per cent of employees stating they tend to spend more time on their tasks while at home.

Aydin Kurt-Elli, chief executive officer of Lumison, said too many firms are "stuck in a Dickensian mindset of 'presenteeism'".

He added: "They must embrace the fact they will have a healthier, happier and more effective workforce if they support flexible working practices."
