A recent survey from CommScope has found that the increase in the take up of mobile devices and cloud services are the top "game changers” in IT at the moment, with many IT managers struggling to keep pace with demand.

According to the CommScope  study, almost three-fourths of those asked said that they are already deploying to the cloud, something which shows that the move to cloud is "far from slowing”. Mobility and cloud came out ahead of infrastructure intelligence, 40/100GbE and green power initiatives as the top challenges to global companies.

Over 1100 IT professionals took part in the survey, in 63 countries around the world and the study confirmed the continued growth of mobile in the office.

"It’s clear from the survey that bring-your-own-device is a growing trend and places a heavy demand on organizational infrastructure, while weighing heavily on the minds of most network IT professionals,” said Kevin St. Cyr, senior vice president, Enterprise Solutions at CommScope.

"The pace of mobility adoption by consumers—and thus the workforce and company visitors—has outrun the infrastructure and practices in place within enterprise facilities to support it. This also factors heavily into the uptick in a majority of survey respondents confirming deployment of cloud-based applications.”

For cloud, the study found that 44% of respondents believe the technology to grow in importance, whilst 21% said they already rely on cloud for applications.

The study is carried out every three years at CommScope and is available in 10 languages in order to give a clear overall picture of global IT trends. However, the research looks at a number of industries of which 35% is technology related and 36% IT professionals in the finance, industrial, manufacturing and government sectors.

"We are trying to capture what’s important to IT managers, and the impact of trends in network planning and connectivity on the jobs they do,” said St. Cyr.

"This survey is part of our ongoing commitment to fully understand our customers’ needs while getting a better perspective on how they view and manage their evolving enterprise networks and data centers.”
