The barriers have fallen in terms of high bandwidth connectivity for UK businesses, an expert has claimed.

Rowland O'Connor, editor of review site Broadband-Help.com, has highlighted the fact that the opening up of infrastructure to accelerate and cut the cost of laying new fibre lines means that companies will have access to higher speeds for less.

He suggested that the increased access firms will have to high bandwidth connectivity will result in a growth in applications designed for this type of broadband.

"I think that you'll be surprised at the new and innovative broadband-enabled technologies that crop up in the next couple of years as a direct result of the improving broadband infrastructure in the UK," he explained.

Earlier this year, Jeremy Hunt, secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport, stated that the government would open up the UK's existing broadband infrastructure in order to stimulate investment in next-generation networks.
