A new system designed to ensure those employed on remote working contracts can enjoy secure data backup services has been launched.

STORServer has released a new add-on for its Backup Appliance and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager that allows IT users to get back online within minutes while a full recovery is performed in the background.

It has particularly been designed to protect those working on Microsoft Windows and Linux servers in both remote or branch offices.

Bill Smoldt, vice-president of research and development at STORServer, said the service would help people get their operations up and running efficiently.

He added: "In the event of a server or drive failure, recovery of the operating system disk - even to dissimilar hardware - can be performed in less than an hour, restoring the server back to the state as of the last backup."

Mark Lewis, senior director of marketing and alliances at Riverbed Technology, recently suggested that remote working policies can boost the productivity of staff.
